BACKGROUND: Judar's page |
World pageIn the world of magi there are two things to note. First, the existence of magic and the spirit is more than real. Anyone in the world can tap into a pool of energy (called magoi) inside of them to issue commands to things called rukh that fill the air and flow through space around them. The rukh are, to put it simply, the souls and memories of every living thing, and they make up the continued energy of the world. Secondly, out of all the people in the world, the rukh love those known as Magi or Sorcerers of Creation the most.
Magi are the few children born every few generations who are beloved by the rukh. They have the ability to access the sheer multitudes of power the rukh represent and use it in their spellcasting. More than that, though, the magi are those who carry the essences of Solomon's main three advisers of old. As such, the roles of magi are noble and important in nature. It's they who emerge at the major changes of history, finding people whom they think are worthy candidates for the title of King or Queen and guiding them to become stronger both in body and in spirit. As such, they are respected and revered by any culture who keeps the knowledge of magi flowing through their history.
However, Judar's role in the world of Magi is a bit different from the regular old magi's. He's what is called as a Fallen Magi, someone who cursed fate and turned away from it, who's trying to convince others to do the same. As such, he's capable of using the power of both light and dark rukh, where-as the other magi are loved by light types.
This whole Fallen thing came to be by an organization known as Al-Thamen having a manipulative hand in Judar's early life. Shortly after he was born, Al-Thamen killed his parents and the entire village he was raised in, taking Judar in and beginning to warp and take advantage of him before he had the hope of understanding what was going on. They tainted his rukh, corrupted the guiding power of the Magi he is, and turned him into an Oracle for their organization. As such, Judar not only became a symbol of Al-Thamen's desire for chaos and darkness, but he became a driving force for the Organization throughout the series.
We first meet Judar while Aladdin, Alibaba, and Morgiana (the heroic trio of the series) are inside the Dungeon Amon. They had just cleared the Dungeon and were speaking with the Djinni who ruled the tower when Judar made his way to the Dungeon and began attempting to bring it down before those who were inside could get out. We also see him briefly in an introduction to the Kou Empire, where he was avoiding the Emperor and trying to encourage Prince Hakuryuu to go and conquer one of Judar's dungeons as his sister had done.
The first
real involvement from Judar, however, came later in the series when Alibaba was attempting to reclaim his birthright as Prince of Balbadd. He briefly interrupts Alibaba's meeting with the King, causing Alibaba to be thrown out, and also sees that Sinbad (the King of Sindria) is there as well. Curious as to what was going on, Judar tracked Sinbad down that night, happening upon Sinbad giving a rousing speech to a group of people determined to overthrow the monarchy and restore order to Balbadd. Interested, and seeing an opportunity to get back at Sinbad for clearing some of Judar's summoned Dungeons uninvited, Judar crashed the party and eventually found himself face to face with the newest Magi of their world, Aladdin.
He and Aladdin ended up fighting in Judar's attempt to have a little fun with an opponent that could actually stand up to him. However, after showing off his expertise when it came to Rukh control as well as ice and lightning magic, he enraged Aladdin's protective Djinni and caused the Djinni to go on a sort of rampage. Despite Judar's best efforts, Ugo sort of squished him a bit with his strength and magic, and Judar was only saved by the timely intervention of the Kou Princess Kougyoku Ren.
For the next while, Judar was left to recover his magoi and his health with the help of Kougyoku's adviser and some assistance from the Al-Thamen, who were also in Balbadd putting a plan of their own into motion. By the time Judar recovered, the monarchy had dissolved due to Alibaba's influence, and Cassim (a renegade warrior from the city's slums) had worked the populace into a frenzy. The city was on fire, the military was fighting the people, and Cassim had enveloped himself in darkness and Dark Rukh to the point of transforming himself into what is known as a Dark Djinni. Judal then took control of this Dark Djinni as his own and, quite gleefully, went about trying to take down Aladdin and Alibaba.
Unfortunately for him, as is the case with the usual good versus evil debacle, Aladdin used his Wisdom of Solomon to not only allow Alibaba to reach out to Cassim at the heart of the Djinni, but he showed Judar the truth about his origins and where he came from. AKA - he showed Judar how the Organization had used and warped him into a puppet in their evil schemes
and Judar got to see that if Al-Thamen hadn't come and destroyed his village, he had the chance at a normal, happy life.
Suffering from both the loss of the Dark Djinni and the mental strain of being shown where he came from, both Judal and the Al-Tharem members present were forced to retreat and regroup, leaving Aladdin and Alibaba to do what they could with their mostly broken country.
The next time Judar showed up is in Sindria, after the Al-Thamen laid a curse on both Sinbad and Alibaba. Taking advantage of the fact that Sinbad was unable to fight due to his curse and Alibaba, Aladdin, Morgiana, and Hakuryuu were inside a Dungeon, Judar broke through the magical barrier surrounding the Kingdom of Sindria and paid them all a little visit instead. A visit that consisted of Judar "breaking down" to Sinbad about how the Al-Thamen had used him as much as they were using anyone else, and how all he wanted for himself was a normal life. Of course, said breakdown was short-lived and ended in gleeful laughter about how Sinbad had actually
believed him and felt sorry for him, as well as a renewed desire to kill Aladdin whenever he got out of Zagan's Dungeon.
Eventually, though, Judar left Sindria so Sinbad could prepare for Al-Thamen's attack, seeing as Judar's work on the barrier couldn't be repaired and strengthened in the time it would take the invading force to reach them.
It's just a short while after this that Judar will find himself in Mask or Menace.
PERSONALITY:Judar is, above all else, a mix of cruel and childish. He goes about everything he does in a carefree manner, not caring about consequences since, really, he's always been
above the consequences normal people suffered from. As a Magi, as one with nearly unlimited power and energy, there are very few people in his world that can match him in a fight, but there's
also the contributing factor that magi, no matter where they go, are treated with respect and reverence. Growing up treated like he held power higher even than emperors and kings definitely contributed to Judar's nature.
But, to elaborate further, Judar's childishness is displayed in various ways. The most noticeable is the flippant way he deals with "official" things. He can go hours ignoring orders or summons by those in power, instead choosing to lounge on a roof and pretend like he can't hear whoever's trying to call to him. If pressed for
why, he can come up with anything from he didn't feel like it, or he just plain doesn't like the person he's supposed to talk to. Likewise, as seen when Judar visited Balbadd, despite going to a country on official business if his interest is piqued, Judar will shirk all previous responsibilities in order to do what he wants and go where he wants. He also did this in Sindria to an extent; when ordered to break through Sindria's barrier he decided to take a moment and play around with Sinbad instead of simply breaking the barrier and returning to Kou.
The incident in Sindria, however, shows more of Judar's personality than just his childishness - it shows that he is more than willing to trick and deceive people for his own amusement. Also, it shows that he honestly doesn't care what people think of him. While speaking with Sinbad, Judar launched into a tearful admission that he, too, was a pawn of Al-Thamen, that he had been used as much as anyone else. Tearfully, he confessed to being lonely, to only wanting a normal life. However, when he collapsed to the ground and Sinbad was beginning to feel for his situation, Judar couldn't hold it in any longer and started laughing, wiping his eyes and crowing about how he'd gotten Sinbad to actually feel pity for him. Due to how Judar was raised and how tainted his rukh have become, he honestly doesn't care what people think of him. They can hate him, they can revere him, they can fear him or swear revenge against him - unless they're strong or he thinks he can get them to curse fate and join his side, he just doesn't care. People are only interesting or worth thinking of if they can either be used to alleviate his boredom
or if he bears certain grudges towards them.
Because, despite Judar's flippancy towards most things, there
are certain things he can't stand, and there are two people in the world who have done things he can't forgive. One of those people, surprisingly enough, is Sinbad. Although his grudge against Sinbad is far more lighthearted than the other one he keeps, it is still a grudge. The man conquered a few of the dungeons Judar had raised, had met him in fights and always escaped with his life, and more than that he keeps getting in the way and refusing to join Judar's offer to team up and conquer the world. The other one he has a grudge against is the leader of Al-Thamen, Gyokuen Ren. The woman responsible for choosing him, out of all the current magi, to corrupt and twist and use to her agenda.
Now, branching off of how Judar has been used by Al-Thamen, it's good to take a moment to revisit Judar's cruelty. You see, the magi has little regard for human life. He was brought up with the desire to create strife and bring about chaos, his rukh tainted by violence and hate. In a fight, Judar doesn't care what he does or who gets in the way, if his enemy runs into a crowd he'll fire on them without hesitation, if he's having a "friendly duel" with someone and ends up killing them- eh, that's fine. They should have known what they were getting into. There was also that time when, upon meeting Aladdin for the first time, he bent down to the kid's level with a smile, introduced himself and held out a hand to shake. Only as soon as Aladdin returned the greeting and reached out to him, he punched the kid in the face. For literally no reason other than to cause a little pain and spread a little chaos and strife.
However, it is entirely possible for Judar to like people. He's not just all hate and violence and a need to kill - in fact, he doesn't even
kill all that often. The guy's obsessed with causing war and stirring up chaos but he's not a psychopathic murderer. In canon, he shows genuine interest in the members of the Ren family, and despite darker motives for the Organization, as with any magi he is invested in and boastful of his King's Candidates, as well as those who still have the potential to
be a Candidate (such as Hakuryu). It could even be said that he likes Sinbad, despite the fact that the two have butted heads ever since Judar was a child. He's always excited to see Sinbad and jokes around with him. In fact, that's how he
usually starts off his meetings with people, with a carefree almost happy attitude (even if it quickly devolves into him saying something rude most of the time). He has also stated that he doesn't hate Aladdin, either. Only... he follows
that up by saying it's because he doesn't hate the other magi that he has to die.
See, as mentioned before Judar was brought up to curse and turn from fate. What this means is that, in the case of Sinbad and Aladdin, if he was fated to meet them as a magi and like them and support them, then he needs to kill them in order to create more black rukh from the cursed fate that results. This is generally how he goes about meeting and interacting with people. If he likes them as soon as he meets them, he needs to eventually kill them or destroy them. Conversely, if he meets someone and knows instantly that he doesn't like them, he needs to work to ally with them in some way. Such is his lot as a Fallen Magi.
POWER: Magic - of the sort that's fueled by him tapping into what will translate as the general life-force of this world. Back in his own world, he was one of the children loved by the Rukh - meaning he was able to use the rukh (the souls and energy of all things living and dead) to fuel spells and his own power. Issuing sequences of commands to the rukh would then result in various spells being cast. In MoM this will change just slightly to accommodate for a new world. He'll still use magic and have that crazy capacity for it that magi have, but since this world doesn't have Rukh he'll be creating his own. Aka - he'll drain the energy from the air for simple spells, but for more complex things he'll need to drain the life energy of plants, animals, and (for the really tricky stuff) humans.Power Granting - if Judar is able to have someone "curse their fate" (in layman's terms, give into the darker way of doing things) he is able to both contribute to the darkness growing inside their life energy and use it to strengthen his own. He's no master in it like some of his Organization, but he both knows of the technique and has the ability to do so with enough practice and concentration.〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE: Ahhhh~ What's the use of this thing, anyway?
[There's just one red eye visible on screen, a smear of dark purple eyeshadow over the sides as it blinks once, twice- and then Judar's pulling away with a sharp exhale.] No rukh, no magoi. Mm, it's almost
impressive.
[He has what looks like a silver wand in his hand, a red jewel at the tip, which he waves once, the camera view raising until it's held still in front of him.
The boy grins, tucking the wand back into the loose cloth around his shoulders]Say, who's the strongest of you?
[His hands are on his hips as he leans closer to the camera, his grin taking on an excited edge] The most powerful? Any Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, Emperors, or Lords? At this point, I'll even take the bastard sons.
[He swipes a hand back through the shaggy bangs framing his face, and the more spiritually inclined may be able to catch a glimpse of a scattering of what seem to be small tiny birds fluttering through the air around him.]I'm Judar, a Priest of the Kou Empire. You'd do well to know me.
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:It was a still night in Heropa. The moon was nearly full, just a few clouds in the sky, and as usual the stars were drowned out by the lights of the city below. Up above the jagged line of roofs and buildings a man sat at the edge of a piece of white cloth, one knee drawn up and his elbow resting on it. His face was scrunched up against his palm, resting heavily as he scanned the bustle of late night traffic below.
"This city's such a boooore," fingers drumming against his knee, Judar's lip pulled up in a sneer, red eyes tracking the path of a human crawling around like an ant below him. All this technology, these advancements in culture and the implementation of machines to do things countries had slaves and servants for back home- tch. It was
boring. Most of these idiots looked like they couldn't fight if their lives depended on it.
With sudden force, the magi pushed away from the piece of fabric he was sitting on, recalling the magoi powering it and pulling it in to wrap around his shoulders. As he fell, flashes of life flashed beside him, a couple cooking dinner, a lady petting her dog, a group of people playing cards around a table. Aaahhh they were just so
dull. Nothing like the cities back home. Nothing like the war and strife and famine running rampant back home. Where was the action? The chaos? The fat noblemen stuffing their faces while whores danced in front of them, the beggars lining the street and the rich folk who sneered and spat in their faces as they passed? The traders with lines of chained and shackled people carrying baskets almost larger than they were? The sound of a cracking whip and anguished cries as a slave tripped and fell?
"Oi," he turned, just as the cars started getting bigger and details were being picked out among the people walking beneath him. "Oi, oi, idiot rukh wannabes," the whispering flutter of wings suddenly filled the air, the energy around him taking the shape of small, shimmering black birds. They swarmed and spun, circling his body in great arcs, teasing the air around his arms, his legs, his hair. "Be useful, huh?"
Just like that, his fall slowed to a crawl, gravity magic taking effect until he could touch down in the center of the street, cars screeching to a stop in front of him. "Ah?" he tilted his head to the side as a horn blared, twirling his wand around in one hand as a grin slowly spread across his face. "What? You want to play?" stalking forward, he raised one foot up, putting it on the bumper of the car and leaning forward on his knee, grinning at the driver. "What can your monster do, then? Is it strong?"
Solomon willing he hoped it was. He needed
something to keep him from dropping dead with how damn
lame this world had turned out to be.
FINAL NOTES: One of Judar's powers in the series is something called
Dungeon Raising. As a magi in his world he has access to limitless amounts of power, and as such he can use that power to create structures that lead to a place in between their world and the next. These Dungeons transport those who choose to attempt them inside to face challenges, not allowing those who try to leave until the Dungeon is cleared. At the top, in his canon, there awaits a Djinni who will choose someone they think shows promise and will imbue a weapon of theirs with an elemental power. Judar, even for as young as he is, has already created several Dungeons in his life and has both seen others complete them and guided his own King's Candidates to master them.
I'd actually really like Judar to have this power for future plot potential! However, seeing as it's a pretty intense thing, it would be under some pretty severe restrictions. I was thinking, due to how his powers would work in game, he'd need to sacrifice the life energies of a large amount of people in order to summon even one moderately working dungeon. However, he wouldn't be able to put a Djinni at the top of it as he doesn't have access to that portion of his world. As such, the dungeon would be a bit unstable, and the only reward that would await the person who completed it would be some moderate magical weapon.
I think it would be a cool plot point in the future! So if it could either be kept like that or maybe worked around at a later date as some byproduct of a Porter malfunction THAT'D BE AWESOME. I can also provide more intricate details on Dungeons in the Magi world if needed!
